Sooo...THAT's where all the damn dishes are!

Holy shit! I try to be fairly chill when it comes to number one son's room, as I am a strict parent in most other areas. I largely stay out of there and figure, meh- if he chooses to live in pigsty, that's really up to him, no? Well, we are getting ready for them to leave for a week's trip with Grandpa tomorrow, and I was on the hunt for dirty clothes. (Yes, I told him to do it, and he came down with two pairs of shorts, two t-shirts, and one pair of underwear. "That is plenty!" he says... Ya, right. *eye roll*) Anywho, I glance over and see a MOUNTAIN of dishes! No wonder we never have any bowls and spoons. By the time he brought them all down, I counted 9 glasses, 5 plates, 5 bowls, 2 serving bowls (for cereal) 4 salad plates and innumerable utensils. My gawd!!! The dogs are excellent pre-rinsers, EWW!, and all went well until the last serving bowl. I removed the top plate and seriously, nearly hurled! Apparently, the dogs are not as fond of green, dusty baked beans as the boy is. *Gags* Smfh...

Hope springs eternal for the teenage years...

As most of you know, my teenage son and I have been going through a bit of a rough patch, lately. He wants to be grown, with none of the responsibility. Typical teenage angst stuff.  I have complained about him quite often, because frankly, I have been pulling my hair out! I had a conversation with him the other day that made me actually look forward to the man that he may become, and I thought I would share something positive about him, for a change! He had gone to the lake with his friends that day, and I saw a whole passel of kids on a raft when I drove by, including some chickees in bikinis that I did not recognize. When he got home, I asked who they all were and he said they were some distant cousins of his friend's, that are visiting. Now, the little town that we live in, is fairly lacking of "hot" girls their age, and my son and his friends are cute boys. Hot items, if you get my drift... *wink, wink* LOL I tried to pry a bit and find out more about them, since he spends a lot of time over there. I got nothin'. After a few minutes of his acting like they hadn't even been there, and his finally saying that they were "stuck up," I just came out with it, and said point blank, "Well, are they cute or what?!" He looked at me blankly, and said, "Mom, it doesn't matter if they are cute. They are jerks, and I can't be bothered with their dumb shit." I looked at him, smiled and said, "Touche, darlin'." This is the second time recently, (that I know of) where he has rebuffed attention from a pretty girl. The last one was too selfish he said. Whoo hoo!! I am glad to see that those character lessons are finally paying off. Way to have principles, kidlet. You make your Mama proud. <3 ~Heather

I don't know how it keeps happening. ♥

Why do you miss us mom?

This morning I was telling Little Michael that I missed Joey (She is in Bethany with a friend for the week) and asked doesn't he miss her too? He tells me, "eh, maybe a little". Then he asks why I miss her. I explain that "I always miss you guys when you are away". He then asks, "why? cuz when we are away you don't have any friends to play with?" And proceeds to laugh. Well played son, well played.

Nancy's Notes:
Got this recipe from a cookbook someone I went to school with has put together. I made it for a cookout we had at the lake on Memorial Day weekend & the guys my Husband works with requested it as well. Everyone that has tried it really likes it.

Comments from the Test Kitchen:
Perfect picnic pick! Sweet and fruity with just a slight tang, this is a wonderfully refreshing cake that I'd be proud to take to any party or bake sale.
